Description
The central portion of this pretty lamp is porcelain, made in Japan, with allover painted decorations of lotus flowers with green leaves on a navy blue ground. Among the flowers are gilt outlines of small clouds; the leaves and flowers are outlined in gilt, also. The porcelain body is outlined in white and at the top under the black wooden cap is a meander design in red and white. It's probable the company produced this as a vase, too. The base with its notched Asian-style feet is also made of black wood.

Although the porcelain is Japanese, the lamp socket was made in Queens, New York, by Eagle Electric Manufacturing Company, founded in 1920. It has a push-through black switch to turn the lamp on and off. The lamp is 9 inches tall to the top of the bulb socket. The base measures 4 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches front to back at the center.

The new white uno* shade is made of linen lined with stiff paper and measures 7 inches tall and 8 inches across the bottom. (We removed the cellophane for our photographs and then put it in a jumbo Hefty plastic storage bag to keep it pristine). So with the shade in place, the lamp is 13 1/4 inches tall. The lamp is in very good condition; the socket has a bit of darkening, but there are no chips or cracks and the cord and plug are in good condition. It turns on readily and uses a 60 watt bulb. This accent lamp looks lovely wherever it's used in your home.

*An uno lamp shade does not need a harp, since the wire fitting is attached to the shade. The shade sit on the bulb socket and then you screw in the light bulb.
